Do you think I still trust you?
Your words won’t heal my wounds,
Nor will a glance from you stir my emotions.Days were passing,
I was suffering;
You ignored my feeling.Every time it happened,
It made me lose my patience,
And give up hope in your love.
These are the opening verses of “Lessa Faker” or “Do you still remember?”, a poem written by Abed Al-Fattah Mustafa, and sung by Um Kulthoum (actual illustration above). Born Egyptian, they both lived in the 20th century at a time when a revolution in Arabic music was taking place.
